Patients Rights and Responsibilities

You have a right to expect a high standard of medical care from the Centre and we will try at all times to provide the very best care possible.

We aim to treat our patients courteously at all times and expect our patients to treat our staff in a similarly respectful way. We take seriously any threatening, abusive or violent behaviour against any of our staff and patients. If a patient is violent or abusive, they will be asked to stop their behaviour. If they persist, we will exercise our right to take action to have them removed, immediately if necessary, from our premises and where necessary our list of registered patients.

We ask that patients take full responsibility for ensuring that they do not abuse the service and help in the smooth running of the Centre by being on time for appointments and telling us in advance if running late or an appointment needs to be cancelled. We also ask that registered patients request home visits only when necessary and request repeat prescriptions at least 48 hours in advance.

Patients are also requested to inform the Centre staff of any circumstances such as change of surname, address or telephone number. Please ensure that we have your correct telephone number even if it is ex-directory.

Your own health and that of any dependents is your own responsibility. It is important that you adhere to advice and information given to you by health professionals and co-operate with the Centre in endeavouring to keep you healthy.

If you wish to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, about our services please contact the Practice Manager with your name, address and details of the information you are requesting.

Wasted Appointments

If a patient regularly fails to turn up for booked appointments without cancelling them, and there appears to be no reasonable reason, we will write to the patient and we may ask the patient to register at another practice.  At times, we have had up to 12% of booked appointments not attended, which could account for almost 10 weeks of wasted GP time in a year, which should have been used to see patients who needed to be seen.
